Construction Fence Mesh: A Buyer's Guide
Printed construction fence mesh does three jobs at once: it screens the site, controls dust and sightlines, and turns your perimeter fence into branded advertising. For builders and site managers, choosing the right mesh is about balancing durability, compliance and cost.
This buyer's guide walks through the material, the relevant Australian standards, sizing and attachment so you can specify fence mesh with confidence.
What construction fence mesh is made from
Our fence mesh and shadecloth are made from 280gsm high-density polyethylene (HDPE) knitted mesh with a UV-stable full-colour digital print. The mesh provides 70–80% block-out while still letting wind pass through, and edges are heat-welded with reinforced webbing for strength.
This construction makes the mesh tough enough for active sites while staying light enough to handle and install with a small crew.
Wind and fire standards
On a construction site, the mesh has to do more than look good. Two standards are especially relevant when specifying printed fence mesh in Australia.
- ✓Wind load — engineered to AS/NZS 1170.2. The open weave lets a portion of wind pass through rather than loading the fence like a sail.
- ✓Flammability — compliant with AS/NZS 1530.2, the Australian standard for flammability of materials.
Sizing and coverage
Standard heights are 1.6m and 1.8m, matching common temporary fence panel heights. Fence Mesh Banners are available from 2.4m up to 50m, while the 50m continuous Printed Shadecloth Roll suits long unbroken runs.
As a rule of thumb, a 50m roll covers about 20 standard 2.4m temporary fence panels in one run, which makes budgeting coverage straightforward.
Attachment and wind considerations
Mesh attaches to temporary or permanent fencing through stainless steel eyelets using cable ties or fixing clips. Eyelet spacing is either every 500mm or every 1000mm depending on how much wind exposure you expect.
For very exposed sites, we recommend your site engineer assesses fence bracing and counterweights before installation. Closer 500mm eyelet spacing gives twice as many fixing points and is the safer choice in windy conditions.
